Shillingford's art challenges the viewers sensibilities in that as much as you may think you know where the artist is coming from, chances are you'd be wrong. Materials for her sculptures and three dimensional pieces can consist of a lot of found, retrieved and recycled items, of which dolls play a pivotal role. Haunting, scary and irreverant, Shillingford pulls no punches in communicating and sharing narrative with audiences.

A resident of London's East End since the 1970s her fascination with dolls and everyday household items suggests a pointed commentary on the fragility of the ever changing modern family structure.
